This piece from seems to me like Sonny Rollins A Night At The Village Vanguard mystical inquiry into dark matter, or the ether, or the divine nothingness of the universe or something along those lines, quite hypnotic and calming, his ensemble a musical Polish Jazz Quartet Polish Jazz Quartet probing the mysteries of creation.
There is always room to question his sincerity up to a point, he was a Carlos Ramos 10 y Su Orquesta Fuego Candelo showman, but only up to point I would argue, it is also real at the core I believe. I must admit, the idea of "intuitive music" really intrigues me. I've read parts of the score to this piece and am interested in it's general attitude toward controlling improvisation, but am not sure how controlled the results truly are, nor how truly interested Stockhausen is in that control.
As such it would be most instructive to have multiple versions of this work available for comparison, because this one leaves me a little cold. Arguments below have centered on the nature of the improvisation in this work. I would have to agree that on the whole, I'd rather hear a seasoned group of avant-gard jazz musicians play this piece, rather than the ensemble recorded hear.
They don't seems to have the ears needed to play this Karlheinz Stockhausen Musique Vivante Aus Den Sieben Tagen well. There are alot of interesting sounds on the album, but it adds up to less Karlheinz Stockhausen Musique Vivante Aus Den Sieben Tagen the sumof it's parts.
As a composer he wants to mediate between the extremes rather than to just follow the preconception of a linear development from the fragmentary and dissonant to the whole and harmonious. InStockhausen made a performing version of the former text, considerably reworked under the title Litanei 97for a speaking choir with occasional sung interjections.
