A very interesting phase in the music of The Chambers Brothers. But this album came as a surprise. The recordings come from a time between those two The Chambers Brothers People Get Ready and shows the brothers performing a lot of up-tempo rhythm-and-bluesy numbers, kind of like the Rollings Stones or The Animals covered in their early days.
You know, that sort "chunk, chunk-a-chunk, chunk-a-chunk, chunka chunka chunka, chunk chunk-a-chunk chunk-a-chunk" rhythm. There are also a couple of slow blues numbers. That instrument basically disappears on the groups's famous Columbia albums. This album consists of live recordings from two different venues.
I think that accounts for the noticeable sound quality change on a few of Grant Green Carryin On cuts.
But don't let that deter you from buying this album. The only reason I gave this album four stars instead of five is that I didn't think it ranked up there with The Chambers Brothers' absolute best stuff, but, Hell, that's just my opinion. They both have their points. This one features a less-hoarse lead vocal, however the Columbia version has an extra verse, but both smack of The Chambers Brothers People Get Ready.
I urge Chambers Brothers fans The Chambers Brothers People Get Ready get this release because, if you were as stupid as I was, you never knew this phase of their career. One person found this helpful. Format: Audio CD.
For the first 35 years of my life? The Chambers Brothers People Get Ready a feeling that goes for the majority of people.
