I've been collecting a few discs in this genre of music because I really like it. Various Referenz 1 go by what reviewers are saying when I decide what to get next.

I agree with the other reviewers; I can't believe I'm getting this great often-neglected music so cheap! Just the right amount of variety and rarity without losing the focus on "groove", which is what has made me critical in the case of some other compilations. This dics is of interest not just to hardcore enthusiasts, but anyone who just wants to get a groove vibe happening.

This really is an outstanding collection of soulful, downtempo jazz. I can't believe I was able to purchase a great-condition, Willie Kendrick Change Your Ways Whats That On Your Finger CD of this for under a buck.

  3. AllMusic Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine [+] By the early '90s, this jazz-rap-funk fusion had become hip and profitable, which led Blue Note to assemble the Blue Break Beats compilations. 4. Not everything on Blue Break Beats, Vol. 2 is a masterpiece, but overall, it's an enjoyable collection of soul-jazz and jazz-funk. Most of the tunes are from the Blue Note vaults, although Gerald Wilson 's infectious, Latin-flavored "Viva Tirado" (which became a big hit for El Chicano in ) was actually recorded for Pacific Jazz.6/

  7. This is the 2nd installment in the Blue Break Beats series. It is not a samplers record, it is a chance to hear the original tracks. This CD started life as a double LP - it was compiled by Dean Rudland and Eddie Pillar back in , as a follow-up to the successful first compilation/5(4).
  8. AllMusic Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine. Blue Break Beats, Vol. contains Blue Note's four exceptional volumes of funky soul-jazz rarities and obscurities in one slip-cased box set. This box set may not appeal to listeners who already own all four discs, since there are no new liners or bonuses, but anyone who's about to invest in 8/
