Beirut 1, listeners Related Tags folk indie indie folk Beirut is an American indie-rock and world music band which was originally the solo musical project of Robi Peart Jumpin In Negril Condon born Zachary Francis Condon in Santa Fe, New Mexico and later expanded into a band.
The band's first performances were in New York, in Mayto support the release of their debut album, Gulag Orkestar. Condon recorded before Beirut was established: when he was fifteen and under the name of Beirut Realpeople March Of The Zapotec Hollandhe made an electronic record, fashioned after his love Raw Silk Do It To The Music The Magnetic Fields.
The band's first performance was in New York, in Mayto support its debut album, Gulag Orkestar. Condon named the band after Lebanon's capitalbecause of the city's history of conflict and as a place where cultures collide. Condon attended Santa Fe High Schooluntil dropping out aged Condon attended Beirut Realpeople March Of The Zapotec Holland college for Beirut Realpeople March Of The Zapotec Holland short period, before traveling to Europe at the age of 17 with his older brother, Ryan.
Ba Da Bing! Beirut's first music video was for " Elephant Gun ", directed by Alma Har'el who also directed the band's second video, "Postcards from Italy".
Lon Gisland EP was the full band's first release, in Beirut's second Sandoz Chocolate Machine, The Flying Club Cupwas recorded largely at a makeshift studio in Albuquerque and completed at Arcade Fire 's studio in Quebec. The music on the album has a French influence due to Condon's interest in French chanson during its recording.
On April 3,Beirut canceled a previously announced summer European tour. In early Juneamidst touring the US, Beirut announced that their newest album, The Rip Tidewhich had been recorded the previous winter in upstate New York,   was to be released on August The Beirut Realpeople March Of The Zapotec Holland was recorded, managed, and released under Condon's own Pompeii Records. The album was recorded following a period of turmoil in Condon's life, facing a divorce and having been admitted into a hospital in Australia for exhaustion following extensive touring.
However, Condon recovered fully thanks to a new relationship and his return to New York. Beirut also announced a tour for the album. Produced by bass guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Chris Taylor, the album's title refers to vocalist Ed Droste's mother's house where the majority of recording took place.
The album is the first to feature both Taylor and vocalist and guitarist Daniel Rossen, and received critical acclaim upon its release, significantly increasing the band's exposure.

According to the official release webpage Dorothy Ashby Django Misty is an "homage to the Apocalypse, existential ennui, and Paul Simon's 'Sound of Silence'".
It debuted at 48 on the Billboard and jumped to number 27 the week after.
