There is some music in the film that is not included on the soundtrack album: the love theme for Michael and Georgina, which is "Fish Beach" from Drowning by Numbersthe song "Something Sometime Soon" performed as a show in the restaurant, or a doubly pulsed variation of Memorial that occurs about halfway through the film.
Edits of "Memorial" appear throughout the film, with the entire twelve-minute movement accompanying the final scene and end credits, but one variation is uniquely created for the film. Spica's men storm Michael's bookshop while Georgina is visiting the boy in hospital. They torture Michael to death by force-feeding him pages from his books. Georgina discovers his body when she returns. Overcome with rage and grief, she begs Boarst to cook Michael's body, and he eventually complies. Together with all the people that Spica wronged throughout the film, Georgina confronts her husband finally at the restaurant and forces him at gunpoint to eat a mouthful of Michael's cooked body.
Spica obeys, gagging. Georgina then shoots him in the head, calling him a cannibal. Peter Greenaway has said that the Jacobean play 'Tis Pity She's a Whore provided him with the main template for his screenplay.

The lead, a widowed art banker, is written for contralto and the role was first created by Hilary Summers. He has also composed the music for the children's television series Titch  which is based on the books written and illustrated by Pat Hutchins. Many of Nyman's works are written for his own ensemble, the Michael Nyman Banda group formed for a production Nightcrawlers Push The Feeling On Carlo Goldoni 's Il Campiello.
Originally made up of old instruments such as rebecs and Bruce Gilbert The Shivering Man alongside more modern instruments like the saxophone to produce as loud a sound as possible without amplification, it later switched to a fully amplified line-up of string quartet, Scott Walker Scott saxophones, trumpet, Tic And Toc With Howard Biggs And His Orch Jibba Jab Im A Big Boy Nowbass trombonebass guitar and piano.
This line up has been variously altered and augmented for some works. In the s, Nyman was a member of the Portsmouth Sinfonia — the self-described World's Worst Orchestra — playing on their recordings and in their concerts.
He was the featured pianist on the orchestra's recording of Bridge Over Troubled Water on the Martin Lewis -produced 20 Classic Rock Classics album on which the Sinfonia gave their unique interpretations of the pop and rock repertoire of the s—s.
